Anagarika dharmapala’s earliya name was don david
. he was born on 17th September 1864. his his father was don carolis
hewawitharana of mathara hitteriya . his mother was mallika hewawitharana.
David had his primary education from the baplist school
dematagoda,
and from there he went to st. benadicts collage Colombo and then to
christian collage kotte. He learn English Bible from st Thomas collage
Mt lavinia.
In 1890 wen to India on pilgrimage he saw that buddhagaya was
going to ruins because it was controlled by heretics . In 1891 he founded
Mahabodthy society and in 1896 he organized a wesak festival in
Buddhagaya. Sri dewamittha dharmapala at mulagandakutti temple on
1933 April 29 he passed away.
